celso

When we listen to Celso sing and play his instruments,
it’s impossible to not see the colors of Brazil. This guitarist and poet expresses his love for nature through a musical dance of melodies.
For the joy of younger ones, he also reproduces sounds
of nature by using empty bottles, or with his hands on his face and by playing his guitar as a drum set.

Celso comes from a musical  family, and has studied classical music. His father and his brothers are well known artists.

For more than 30 years, he crossed the continents with his music, a blend of bossa nova, salsa and indigenous influences mixed with the music of the european countries where he lived. The words of his compositions are covered with memories and stories of his land, Brazil.

He also often collaborates with Brazilian poets, such as Marcia Accioly, Luis Carlos Bahia and Marcia Abujamra.

Nature without borders

”I am very attached to my land, and I find shocking what companies are trying to do
to the Amazon forest. I put the sounds of the forest in my songs because I do not want nature to be forgotten” he explains. Celso is also very concerned about what is happening in Canada, since he has lived in Vancouver for 14 years, where he founded his family. His respect for nature is very important. “I think a big problem comes from the proximity with the United States, they are trying to extract the wealth of Canada, and cripple us. Too many people do not control their resources,” he adds. The Mackenzie Gas Project makes him worry a lot, since according to him the consequences would be disastrous for the surrounding nature. “Man does not deserve  Nature! “, he says.

His ultimate creation,Varao (washingline), will be available in late July. Very melodious as usual, it is inspired this time by the noises of the objects that are found on the beach and in the forests. Celso is very proud of his latest creation. “There was a tremendous energy in the studio, the sounds, the instruments, the voice, everything was perfect! “.

This artist, who has already been nominated for Juno Awards, wishes to remain independent and doesn’t appreciate prejudices. “I don’t understand why we place my music under world music. Are we not all in the same world? My music is Brazilian. Why do we want to share  hip-hop, jazz and then put  brazilian music in a big pile? I found this very ethnocentric. “

Celso has no intention to retire, he leaves shortly for a series of concerts in France and will then continue to write. Its recipe for success? “Stay as much as possible away from computers, look at what is happening around you and do not allow technology to dry your brain! “
