2005

At first,  it was a group of folk lovers  that would get  together. It is now an opportunity like no other for NWT musicians to make themselves known.

In 25 years, several artists have launched their career here, and the event keeps growing.

This year there is a great variety of music styles, for the enjoyment of everybody. Groups arrive from everywhere,  NWT, Yukon and Nunavut of course, but also  Mongolia (Chirgilchin) and Denmark (Instinkt).  With Tanya Tagaq Tillis, which is now known on the international scene, we can expect some very interesting jams.

Jazz lovers will be spoiled with Creaking Tree String Quartet and Rick Fines Trio. For the younger ones, Kinne Starr will serve his pop ballads.

And with Sloan, you  will satisfy your  rock cravings!

25 years of music

For the first time this year, a compilation with the success of previous festivals will be available for purchase.

During the shows, you’ll see new faces, and some more known, such as Tracy Riley and Pat Braden as masters of ceremony.

Folk on the Rocks is  in the Top 5 of the Globe and Mail of the best festivals in Canada, and the organizers are very satisfied with the work done so far.

“It is a true collaboration between the north and the south of the country, explains Tracey Bryant, general director of the festival, there will be really something  for everybody, even the small ones can have fun, since there will be areas of games, a cultural area, crafts etc. “

In addition to music, we will also enjoy the show of Crazy Legs, who have had great success during their show in May.

Brazilian Celso Machado, magician of the guitar, will delight the child in all of us, in a show which reproduces the sounds of the Amazon forest. Deatha Coil promises a  very theatrical show.

With 5 stages, music 12 hours per day, for a total of 36 groups and more than a hundred performances, prepare yourself for an intense week end.
